Dear Family and Friends: Drew called at three am this morning (8/20/05) and informed us that he is on his way to Iraq. He is leaving with an advanced party with a few guys in his unit. His 7 month tour does not start till the rest of his unit arrives in Iraq. They will be doing the transition with the unit that will be coming home. Unfortunately, Drew will be sent to another unit in Falugia immediately upon his arrival. They are short on mechanics and have five trucks out of commission. He is to retrieve the trucks and repair them. He sounded pretty sad about leaving his unit that he has been training with since January. I do have an address but I do not know if it is correct since he is being moved. He said he would call me as soon as he could to confirm his address. |

I did visit him two weeks ago in 29 Palms, California. I was impressed with the guys I met from his unit. Some are going back for the second time. One guy came over to me and told me not to worry, that they had his back. They are a very close group. Their spirits were very high and all seemed ready. I spoke with my friends Jim and Sherry, whose son came home from Iraq in April. They will be sending me a list of stuff that Drew will need and want. I will be glad to pass on any information as I get it. This will be a pretty tough time for all of us, so please keep Drew in your prayers, and if you would, please place a yellow ribbon in front of your home for him. Love, Gary
